Touching DC's borders, the metro rail system has brought virtually whole new cities to Bethesda and Silver Spring MD, as well as to Alexandria and Arlington, VA (originally the Southeast quadrant of the District). The rail system is now the focus of urbanization and economic growth in these suburbs, with the nearby land re-zoned for commercial and high-density residential uses. NEXTNEXT PAGE
